About Us

The Holistic Press was formed as a collective of folks from both sides of the “Mental Health Aisle”, those with a large amount of personal experience but little professional expertise, and some with professional qualifications but little first-hand experience.

We’re not saying that qualified psychologists don’t have any real-world appreciation of their patients' hardships, or that just because you’ve had a personality disorder that you know all about it, not at all. We just found that a lucky few PD sufferers that had found or developed coping strategies, who sat down and talked to open-minded psychologists, came up with some amazing ideas between them.

We analysed the large number of inquiries members were getting from poor souls for whom professional help is not always accessible or feasible, due to a myriad of reasons; cultural restrictions, privacy concerns, physical isolation, financial constraints, religious beliefs, societal stigma, or an abusive spouse, and it prompted us to go to work for a year, and to develop a system of self-help, DIY action… which we call the SA3 System.

We must say here and now, that we always suggest that you seek professional help wherever possible BUT, there are just so many folks for whom this is just not an option, we felt obliged to develop something to help. We feel an imperfect helper is better than a perfect critic. It’s just so much easier to sit back, be ‘clever’, pick holes and say what’s wrong, than it is to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and offer a helping hand.

As messy as that metaphor is, we make no apologies for trying our best to help. Our qualified members have such little faith in their collective professional colleagues, that for the sake of their livelihoods, we will keep their identities private for now. The only ‘public faces’ we have are Jules and Jan. They are very real people and have several children, one with an Eating Disorder, and two others who have been through Mood and Personality Disorders. One is still very much a work in progress, while the other two are getting along just fine… so there’s always hope.

So that’s the collective “Us”, and we hope you bear with us as we continue to offer as many solutions and strategies as we can. If you find any of them helpful, it makes it all worthwhile, and we wish you all good luck, from all of us.
